What’s happening with Shomi? It’s a question our customer service keeps getting and one that came up several times at the New England Conference last weekend.
With the recent market constrictions, it was getting difficult to have an added romance in certain months on the list. So we’ve folded some Shomi titles into the Love Spell line and moved some to a new position geared more toward fantasy/urban fantasy in Leisure, depending on the book’s content.
We’re definitely still doing cutting-edge, innovative romance. Fans of Shomi will want to keep an eye out for:
TEKGRRL by A.J. Menden – June
When she was 12, Mindy asked to go to the School like other gifted girls. Her parents sent her to another planet.
Today, Mindy’s back on Earth. She’s a mechanical genius with the Elite Hands of Justice, America’s premier superhero squad. She’s been having headaches, though, and not just because her longtime crush is flirting with a teammate. It’s not because she’s pushing thirty. It’s also not because of the contrary actions of the new Secretary for Superhero Affairs, ex-ally Simon Leasure. No, what’s burning her brain is a past she can’t remember, a past that has been erased. It’s a memory surging closer—in flying saucers. Her worst nightmare is returning, big-time, and only she, her friends and her one true love can stop it.
THE STRANGELY BEAUTIFUL TALE OF MISS PERCY PARKER by Leanna Renee Heiber – September
From Senior Editor Chris Keeslar: It’s something of a mix of Harry Potter (particularly the parts with the boarding school where Percy studies, Athens Academy), Ghostbusters or Constantine (all of the action, where the reincarnated Guard fights evil specters) and A Winter’s Tale (lush prose steeped in historical detail, the time centered onVictorian London).
Hidden in the dark heart of Victorian London, the Athens Academy was dreadfully imposing, and little could Percy Parker guess what lay inside. She had never met its powerful and mysterious Professor Alexi Rychman, knew nothing of the growing shadows, of the Ripper and other supernatural terrors against which his coterie stood guard. She saw simply that she was different, haunted, with her snow white hair, pearlescent skin and uncanny gift.
DARK LEGACY by Anna DeStefano – September
“Die!” scream her nightmares. The voice is her sister’s, the compulsion stronger than any ordinary dream.
Maddie Temple can’t go through this again. Her twin has been in a coma for the last ten years. Their psychic link was severed. At least, that’s what she thought.
But there’s a lot Maddie doesn’t know—about the 200-year-old curse on her family, about the shadowy group that wants to exploit the Temple twins’ powers for themselves, about the sexy psychiatrist offering to help her. The only way to find the answers and avoid being pulled into the abyss of madness is to trust her heart and confront her…DARK LEGACY.
FALLEN ROGUE by Amy Rench – December
The cover copy below is a work in progress, but this book will appeal to fans of Alias, Fringe, Dollhouse or Heroes.
Harper Kane was well on her way to an Olympic gold medal in swimming. But now she’ll never pass the doping test. Oh, it’s not steroids. She doesn’t know what exactly she was injected with—something so secret her brother died to protect it, something that’s suddenly given her deadly psi abilities she can’t quite control.
Special Agent Rome Lucian’s instructions are clear: Find Kane and bring her in. She’s a threat that needs to be terminated. What’s not clear is exactly who’s giving the instructions. Rome can’t trust anything anymore, and his only ally is the woman he’s been sent to kill, a woman who can cause massive devastation with only her mind.
TSUNAMI BLUE by Gayle Ann Williams – April 2010
In a time when water covers most of the earth, Kathryn “Blue” O’Malley, known as Tsunami Blue, is a voice of hope across the airwaves, for she has a special ability to predict where the next tsunami will hit and can warn her fellow survivors. She lives alone on an island with only her dog Max for company, hoping to stay under the radar of the Runners, pirates who would use her gift for their own gain. When a Runner washes up on her shores, Blue guardedly takes him in–not knowing the pirates are just as much after him as they are her….
